ESTIMATED GFR
(Based on 4 variable MDRD formula)

Please note that this calculator adjusts specifically for creatinine results obtained using methodology at Basildon Hospital
Estimated GFR using other calculators (e.g. from renal association web site) will give different values.

Enter patient's serum creatinine, age and sex data in boxes (use TAB key to move between boxes). eGFR calculated using the Basildon creatinine method corrected MDRD formula.

Serum creatinine (umol/L)

Age (years)

Sex (m or f)

(lower case only)

eGFR (mL/min/1.73m2):

** FOR AFRICAN-CARIBBEAN PATIENTS MULTIPLY eGFR RESULT BY 1.2 **

CAUTION

  • Do not use in Acute Renal Failure - creatinine results should be stable for 2-3 months.

  • Suitable for adults only (>18 years of age). Do not use with inpatiens.

  • Results may deviate from true GFR values with extremes of body composition (including amputations, gross oedema) or dietary intake or severe liver disease. Do not use with pregnant patients.

  • The formula has NOT been validated for drug dosing. Cockcroft and Gault estimates are recommended.

  • The data is not stored electronically - all transcriptions must be checked for errors

  • Formula: eGFR = 175 * [(((Serum Creatinine - 16.14)/0.955) x 0.0113) -1.154] * (age -0.203) * F
(where F = 1 if male, and 0.742 if female)
