Differential diagnosis of Fe Deficiency Anaemia

Ferritin and ESR are combined in a discriminant function which gives the probability of the patient having iron deficiency anaemia (FDA). The ESR compensates for the effect of other disease processes such as inflammation, liver disease and malignancy.

Formula: P = 1 / (1 + exp(1.311*Ferritin - 0.6213*ESR - 12.17))
