The
patient should abstain from sex or masturbation for at least two
days prior to producing the specimen but to have an abstinence
period of no longer than 7 days.
|
2. |
One
specimen
is required for initial evaluation. If abnormal we will ask
you to repeat the test.
|
3. |
The
specimen should be obtained by masturbation.
|
4. |
The entire
specimen should
be collected directly into the container provided. A sheath must not be used for collection of the specimen. |
5. |
The
specimen container should be securely fastened and clearly labelled
with the date and time of collection and the patient’s name. |
6. |
Is
the specimen complete? Since most of the spermatozoa are found within
the first part of the sample, it is important to know if the entire
specimen was collected.
|
7. |
The
specimen must be placed in a plastic bag along with a Histology/Cytology
request form signed by the doctor.
|
8. |
Specimens
should be kept warm and therefore carried in an inside pocket or
other situation taking advantage of body heat. |
9. |
Specimens
must not be sent by post.
Specimens should reach the Cellular Pathology Department at
Basildon Hospital within one hour of collection, Monday to
Friday only between 08:30 and 16:00 hours. |
10. |
All
specimens for the investigation of infertility must be taken
directly to the Cellular Pathology department at Basildon Hospital.

11. |
A
reliable report cannot be guaranteed if the above instructions are
not observed. |
12. |
Under
no circumstances will the report be given to anyone other than the
requesting doctor.
