EXAMPLE LETTER SENT TO GP’S FOR PATIENTS RECEIVING IV CHEMOTHERAPY

Mr/Mrs ........... was seen in the Haematology Day Unit on ....... and commenced .......... chemotherapy which will last approximately ......weeks.  He/she was given detailed information concerning the duration and side effects of this treatment.  I thought it would be helpful to provide the same information for you - copies enclosed.  Mr/Mrs ..... will be reviewed on a weekly basis and will be supported with blood products as necessary.

There is a chance that he/she will present to you with febrile neutropenia in which case please  make arrangements for him/her to be admitted to the Mary Wright Unit immediately with instructions to contact either Dr Cervi or Dr Watts, consultant haematologists, on arrival.
