Specific Criteria

Please give detailed clinical information
Before testing faeces for helicobacter, it will be necessary to stop
H2 receptor blockers, antibiotic therapy and proton pump inhibitors (PPI’s) for at least 4 weeks
This test was introduced into routine use on 1 March 2006
. From 01 April 2006, only faecal antigen tests (FAT) for Helicobacter pylori will be performed; serology for Helicobacter pylori antibody is no longer available

Turnaround Time

The test will be performed weekly, usually on Fridays, with the results being available Friday afternoon

A walnut sized portion should be submitted in a faeces container

Blue capped universal container with spoon

Collection

Samples should be transported to laboratory immediately

Lab. Handling

Samples should be processed on day of receipt and stored at -20oC until tested

Causes for Rejection

Unlabelled sample
Delay in sample reaching laboratory
Not meeting specific criteria
