The test will be performed on urgent requests (pre-op) where there is insufficient time to perform HPLC.

Hb variants requiring confirmation sent to Royal London Hospital. Variants requiring definitive diagnosis sent to Kings College Hospital

Causes for Rejection

Unlabelled sample. Clotted sample. This test is not reliable on infants less than 3 months old. Unreliable in the presence of Dextrans.
